Prior to joining Gilbert Garcia Group, Mr. Garcia served as General Counsel and Corporate Secretary for Syniverse Technologies, a multi-national company headquartered in Tampa, where he practiced for over 13 years. Prior to that, he was in private practice in Washington, D.C., and prior to that served as in-house counsel for the Quaker Oats Company in Chicago. Mr. Garcia began his legal career with the U.S. Patent and Trademark office in Washington, DC. Mr. Garcia received his law degree from the National Law Center, George Washington University and has a BA in Political Science from the University of South Florida. Mr. Garcia’s practice focused on assisting businesses of all types and sizes, including start-ups, small and mid-sized companies and large multinational corporations. Mr. Garcia’s practice covers a variety of areas including intellectual property, entity formation, vendor management, employment matters, corporate records and governance, and certain regulatory issues.
Mr. Garcia also has significant experience in the review, drafting and negotiation of numerous and varied business documents including merger, acquisition, sales, vendors, purchase, rental, employment, confidentiality and non-compete agreements, contracts and licenses. Mr. Garcia also has experience working with certain stock and securities issues having served as Syniverse’s General Counsel during the time it went from a privately held to a publicly traded company. As a former General Counsel, Mr. Garcia was the “client” to literally hundreds of attorneys in private practice. In that role, he learned to very quickly recognize the characteristics of a good and responsive attorney and to fully appreciate what it takes to serve the client’s needs and operate in the client’s best interest. Mr. Garcia is also a small business owner which has only served to reinforce his understanding of the legal needs of small to mid-sized businesses. Mr. Garcia is also a Tampa native, well acquainted with the specific requirements of the Tampa Bay market, as well as the unique benefits of practicing in the Tampa area.
